With proper care, oriental rugs can last more than a lifetime. However, as in any other investment, oriental rugs need regular maintenance, especially in high-traffic areas. We highly recommend getting them professionally cleaned and restored every two years.

 

Maintaining your Oriental Rug Investment

 

In case of:

 

Blood spill, wine or other stain
Do not rub the stain since this will spread it over a larger area. Instead, blot with even pressure into the center of the stain. Spray club soda on the stain immediately in order to keep the stain from setting into the fibers. Do not use commercial cleaning products containing enzymes or strong chemicals made for wall-to-wall carpets since this may permanently damage the rug.

Dog & pet stain
Dog and pet stains actually change the chemical composition of wool and actually burn the fibers on a chemical scale. Most pet stains cannot be removed. However, if the stain is recent, try to remove as much urine as possible by diluting it with club soda and blotting it. Call us immediately to schedule a pick up.

Moth damage
Moth larvae consume wool on the rug where there is little or no traffic. Vacuum the rug regularly, especially areas that are under furniture or that received little traffic. Periodic regular cleaning is recommended to mitigate moth damage.

Fringe damage
